What does it mean to be a Christian?  A lot of people call themselves Christians almost without a whole lot of conviction. Like it's secondary to who they are. They may say, "Oh yeah, I'm a Christian, too." But they have never read the Bible. They may go to church once or twice a year. And praying to God is like praying to the "big guy upstairs," as if he's their sugar daddy in a financial or emotional crisis. Or a slot machine at a Casino. If they pray to Him long or hard enough, they will hit the jackpot.

I liken this cheapening of the word Christian to when we overuse the word love. We say, "I love that movie." Or, "I love that color." So, when we say we love someone, the word itself loses its meaning. Saying we love "things" with regularity seems to cheapen the meaning of love when it comes to our feelings toward a person.

And so the same with saying you're a Christian. Shouldn't it mean more than just a word? Shouldn't it mean more in our lives? To say you are a Christian is to be a Christian, and that simply means to be a follower of Christ. To say you are a Christian means you have dedicated yourself to Christ. To say you are a Christian means you believe Jesus to be God, the One who died for you, so that you can live eternally with Him. It doesn't mean to be perfect. But becoming a Christian is life-changing.

"Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17

Being a Christian means putting self aside and learning about Christ. We learn to be like Him through reading and studying His Word, praying, listening to Biblically-sound preaching, and so much more.

Let us not use this word loosely. If you are a Christian, a follower of Christ, live like it. If you aren’t a Christian and don’t believe in Christ as the Bible teaches, don’t use that word to be something you are not.

I couldn't agree with you more. But my advice to you is not to be so harsh on those people that call themselves "Christians" and are not all the way there yet. Always give people a chance. The fact they are saying they are Christians says they believe and that is something. They could say they don't believe in all that stuff but instead they say "Yes I am a Christian" and there is something great just about that. And eventually they may get to the point that Christian is there true title. But everybody has to start somewhere.

Well, kinda. I disagree with those that say if you accept Jesus you will be saved. Not good enough (please, don't quote scripture to "prove" me wrong). You have to walk the walk too. I feel we are judged by deeds, not just what we say, even if we mean it. You will find this in the uncorrupted teachings of all religions, even mine. Following any religious doctring will assure you live a good life. The golden rule DOES apply.
